Asset Life, Efficiency & Reliability Technology Workshop in Kuwait
On June 23, 2025, IGS successfully delivered its Kuwait edition of the A-L-E-R-T (Asset Life, Efficiency & Reliability Technology) Workshop at the Hyatt Regency Al Kout Mall. The event gathered energy sector professionals—including asset integrity managers, corrosion specialists, process engineers, and turnaround planners—for a practical, immersive session focused on operational improvements and proven field technologies.
Real Solutions for Real Operational Challenges
Designed as an interactive, case-driven forum, the Kuwait ALERT Workshop focused on two central pillars: Asset Integrity & Life Extension and Fired Heater & Furnace Efficiency. Through live demonstrations and real-world case studies, the audience gained a firsthand view of how innovative surface technologies and repair strategies are enabling safer, longer-lasting, and more efficient operation across industrial assets.
Fired Heater Efficiency and Emissions Reduction
Kicking off the morning sessions, IGS experts Rohit Kardile and Johannes Poth guided attendees through solutions targeting the convection and radiant sections of fired heaters. Technologies such as Cetek Ceramic Coatings were featured, showing how their application improves tube longevity and heat transfer, while reducing emissions and fuel consumption. Case studies demonstrated fuel savings of up to 15% and CO₂ reductions of similar scale.
Another highlight was the Thermal Efficiency Audit methodology, where operational and design data are analyzed to quantify ROI potential. As illustrated during the session, plants can flexibly shift between maximizing throughput or lowering emissions based on operational goals.
Live Maintenance and Turnaround Minimization
The workshop emphasized in-situ intervention techniques designed to eliminate unplanned shutdowns. Shyam Barshikar showcased IGS’s Hot-Tek™ suite of online maintenance services, including:
-
Hot Spot Repair—restores insulation in refractory failures during live operation
-
Hot Tube Descaling & Cleaning—improves radiant and convection efficiency
-
Hot Convection Cleaning & Vacuum Service—maintains SCR units without shutdown
These methods allow operators to restore asset performance mid-cycle—an essential capability for facilities facing tight turnaround windows.
Corrosion Mitigation with HVTS and MetalSpray Rover
Corrosion in high-temperature/high-pressure (HT/HP) environments was a major discussion point. Colin Bateman and Rohit Kardile demonstrated the value of High Velocity Thermal Spray (HVTS), a proven method to extend life of towers, columns, and separators exposed to aggressive conditions.
Also introduced was the IGS MetalSpray Rover—a no-man-entry robotic system for corrosion protection in pipelines and slug catchers. With alloy application, surface prep, and integrity scans all integrated, the Rover ensures safe, efficient mitigation of wet gas corrosion.
Collaborative Knowledge Sharing
Throughout the event, attendees engaged in technical Q&A sessions and peer-led discussions. The workshop’s structure encouraged cross-functional dialogue, enabling participants to benchmark their asset strategies against best-in-class practices.
Speakers included IGS subject matter experts:
Johannes Poth, Rohit Kardile, Colin Bateman, Dennis Snijders, and Shyam Barshikar—each bringing deep operational and regional expertise to the table.
Insights for a Changing Energy Landscape
Against the backdrop of tightening regulations and growing performance demands, the ALERT Workshop in Kuwait delivered valuable takeaways. Attendees left with actionable methods to:
-
Reduce emissions and fuel use
-
Extend the life of mission-critical equipment
-
Plan smarter turnarounds with in-situ strategies
