Baghouses

Baghouse Corrosion

Acid gas corrosion affects baghouses and leads to rapid degradation. The economic impact of baghouse corrosion includes:

  • Unplanned shutdowns
  • Reduced efficiency
  • Costly maintenance
  • Loss of containment
  • Environmental fines

Baghouse Corrosion Mechanism

Carbon steel corrodes when exposed to high temperatures, wet, and acid flue gases. Stainless steel will experience corrosion if the gases contain chlorides. Corrosion that ultimately leads to equipment failure affects not only baghouses, but also ESPsStacks, and Ducts.

Conventional Coatings

Typical epoxy-based, silicone, acrylic and alkyd coatings do not withstand normal operating temperatures. Blistering is soon followed by delamination from the steel surface. These coatings suffer from abrasion, permeation, and poor adhesion, leading to premature failure.

Some coatings that offer better performance are available but can only be applied in a workshop under strict environmental controls.

IGS MRP Coating System

The IGS MRP system is a metal-reinforced polymer. It is fundamentally a metallic system coupled with a topcoat and therefore not susceptible to uniform corrosion patterns and is thus significantly more resistant to mechanical damage. The appropriate metallurgy is specified for the specific process condition and environment. Its thickness is optimized for maximum protection and integrity of the metal cladding.

Proven Experience

IGS has protected mission-critical process equipment against corrosion and wear damage for more than 20 years. IGS has successfully delivered 400,000 m2 of surface protection across 3,000+ projects in more than 30 countries across six continents.

Quality, Safety and Reliability

Fully trained and certified in-house personnel provide turnkey installations, operating under robust HSE and QMS programs, providing our customers with the safest and most reliable surface protection service available. Our customers attest that our safety-first culture noticeably sets IGS apart from most industrial contractors.

1. Cost-Effective Robust Protection

IGS MRP system leverages 20-plus years of metal cladding and polymer applications experience to provide a surface protection solution that is significantly more robust and reliable than traditional organic and inorganic coatings. MRP also costs a fraction of the price of metallic cladding solutions such as metal weld overlay (MWO) and IGS HVTS® alloy cladding solutions, delivering a barrier against high-temperature corrosive media, including H2SO4, HCl, H2S and other corrosive and abrasive compounds.

2. Minimized Turnaround Schedules

IGS installs the MRP system in-situ, reducing the critical path, and enabling prompt return to service in less than 12 hours from application. Resistance against steam-out and mechanical damage, as well as easily refurbishable characteristics shortens outage schedules.

3. Lasting Protection where Alternatives Fall Short

As compared with traditional organic and inorganic coatings, IGS MRP delivers mechanically and chemically robust protection that resists operational and maintenance degradation. This results in longer asset life, less inspection and maintenance time, lower costs, and shorter turnaround schedules.
